5 Things to Consider When Buying an HD TV

Many people consider watching on their television sets with their friends and family as a bonding experience. If you love to spend time with your loved ones by enjoying your favorite shows and movies in the comfort of your home, then you know that having a high-quality TV is very important. With many manufacturers offering LED, HD, and 4K TVs, you can easily take your pick. Before you buy an HD TV online, you may want to think about the following things to help you make an informed choice.

Screen Size

The first thing you will notice when hunting for a new TV is its screen size, whether you are just looking for a basic HD TV or upgrading to a high-performance TV. Before making your choice, you need to consider how many people will likely watch at one time and where you will set up your new TV. With these in mind, select the screen size that will fit well in that space. If you are placing the TV in your living room or a home theater, you can choose 55-inch to 65-inch screen size. However, a smaller one may be better in your bedroom or kitchen.

Also, screen size will depend on how close you will be to the TV. A good rule of thumb is that you must be able to comfortably watch when sitting at a distance of three times more than the height of the TV if it is HD. While for 4K Ultra HD, a distance of 1.5 times that of the screen height is good.

Screen Resolution

Image resolution is the number of pixels that make up a picture on the screen. The more pixels, the sharper the image, and the finer the details will be. So, when looking for a new TV, go for the one with a higher resolution if you can.

The standard resolution is full high-definition (HD) in most TVs, offering a 1920 x 1080 resolution. But many TV manufacturers are turning to the new technology of Ultra HD or 4K. These have four times the number of pixels with 3840 x 2160 pixels, which gives small objects finer details like sharper text. Aside from the more life-like images, the sharper pictures from 4K TVs allow you to comfortably view the screen from a shorter distance.

Now, 8K TVs are also available, offering 7680 x 4320 pixels. While this may be a giant leap in image quality, looking for content that will fully take advantage of this technology is extremely limited.

Smart Technology

Many TVs now come with Wi-Fi capability, so you can easily connect them with internet-based streaming services, gaming apps, and social media platforms. Commonly known as Smart TV, this type provides easy access to content without attaching external devices like a USB drive or streaming dongle. Moreover, you can easily find and enjoy 4K and HDR content with a Smart TV.

Sound Quality

Audio quality is just as important when considering buying a new TV. To see if the sound spreads through the area where you will place your TV, play loud action scenes and listen if there is any harshness and distortion at high volume or if the bass is adequate. In addition, there must be clarity with the voice audio, making sure that it sounds realistic and detailed.

Remember to watch out for any rattling, buzzing, or directional distortion when the volume is up. If this is the case, you may want to add a separate sound system by setting up a soundbar.

Connections

As much as you are enchanted by what’s on the screen, you also need to check what’s behind the TV. Don’t forget to check the number of HDMI inputs the appliance has and see if they are enough to support external attachments like your soundbar and game consoles. If you decide to get a 4K Ultra HD TV, keep in mind you may need HDMI 2.0 for future Ultra HD sources.

There may still be other considerations, but you can start with these before purchasing a new TV. Taking note of these features will help you find the right TV for all your movie nights.
